Te mapa
Khenifra lies in a valley of the Middle Atlas where the Oum Er-Rbia, one of Morocco's longest rivers, flows through the town. From above, the city spreads on both banks, with the river as a winding dividing line in the centre. Streets climb the slopes on each side, forming irregular terraces that follow the hills.
The town is known for its ochre-red buildings and as the historic centre of the Zayane confederation. Its leader Moha ou Hammou Zayani led resistance against French forces in the early twentieth century. An old stone bridge crosses the river near the centre and shows on the map as one of several connections binding the two halves of the town.
A Khenifra map poster is defined by its river and its slopes: a town that could not grow in straight lines. The mountains around it keep the outline compact, and the Oum Er-Rbia gives the whole composition a natural focus. In black and white, the curves of river and hillside streets create a quiet, organic design.
The river runs through the middle of town in a clear winding line, dividing it into two banks that the map shows side by side.
A historic stone bridge links the two halves near the centre, one of the key points where the street network meets across the water.
Streets climb the valley slopes in uneven rows, giving the town a layered, irregular edge against the mountains.
