Te mapa
Khlong Yai is in Trat, Thailand's easternmost province, and its geography is unusual. The district occupies a thin strip of land between the Gulf of Thailand and the mountains along the Cambodian border, and in places it is among the narrowest parts of the country, only a few hundred metres wide. On a map, the territory looks stretched and tapering.
The town sits on the coast, where a river mouth and mangrove channels break up the shoreline. A single main road runs down the strip toward the border crossing at Hat Lek, and most of the settlement lines up along it. Fishing piers and small inlets mark the sea side, with forested slopes rising steeply on the other.
A Khlong Yai map poster turns this narrow geography into a striking vertical composition. One strong road, a complicated coastline and the edge of the hills create the whole picture. It suits a tall print format, and the shape itself tells the story of a town between sea and border.
The land between sea and border hills pinches to only a few hundred metres wide in places, giving the map an unusually slender outline.
River mouths and mangrove channels fray the shoreline into fine, irregular lines. They contrast with the town's few straight streets.
The main road runs south along the strip toward the Hat Lek border crossing into Cambodia, serving as the backbone of the whole settlement.
