Te mapa
Rayong lies on Thailand's Eastern Seaboard, where the Rayong River meets the Gulf of Thailand. On a map the town centre gathers around the river mouth, with streets fanning out from the old market area, while a long, gently curving coastline runs east and west from the city.
Beyond the centre, the map changes character. Large industrial estates, including Map Ta Phut to the west, appear as broad rectangles with wide internal roads and port facilities that reach into the sea. Inland, the landscape turns to plantations and orchards, crossed by highways connecting Rayong to Bangkok and the rest of the eastern region.
Offshore lies Ko Samet, a small island reached by boat from the nearby coast and well known for its beaches. A Rayong map poster shows the contrast between the old town at the river mouth, the sweeping coastline and the precise geometry of one of Thailand's key industrial zones.
The river winds through the town centre and opens into the Gulf of Thailand, giving the core its orientation and a distinctive curved outline.
A smooth, sandy shore extends along the Gulf for kilometres on both sides of the city, drawn as a long line that anchors the whole composition.
To the west, large industrial and port areas appear as big, regular blocks with jetties reaching into the sea, a sharp contrast to the finer grain of the old town.

Koteā ko Rayong
Rayong means different things to different people: a hometown, a posting at one of the industrial estates, or the jumping-off point for Ko Samet. A map of its coast and river is a clean way to mark any of those connections.
