Te mapa
Kingisepp lies on the Luga river in the west of Leningrad Oblast, a short distance from the Estonian border at Ivangorod and Narva. The river curves through the town and is its most prominent feature on a map. Streets spread out on both banks, the older blocks grouped near the water and newer residential districts arranged in wider patterns further out.
The town began as Yam, a fortress founded by Novgorod in the fourteenth century to guard the river crossing. Later it was called Yamburg, and in 1922 it was renamed after the Estonian revolutionary Viktor Kingissepp. The old fortress site near the river remains part of the town's layout. St. Catherine's Cathedral, built in the eighteenth century, is its main historic landmark.
Industry, especially phosphate processing, has shaped Kingisepp's recent growth. Large industrial sites show up as big, regular shapes on the outskirts. A Kingisepp map poster brings together the river bend, the historic core and the surrounding growth into a balanced composition. The Luga holds the design together from one side of the frame to the other.
The Luga curves through the town in a wide, flowing line. It divides Kingisepp into two parts and gives the poster its main movement.
The site of the medieval fortress of Yam sits near the river. It marks the place where the town began and is a quiet centre within the modern street plan.
Roads lead west toward Ivangorod and the Estonian border. They are long, straight lines through forest and farmland, linking Kingisepp to the Baltic region.

For people from Kingisepp or Leningrad Oblast, this map combines a medieval origin with the familiar streets of everyday life. The river gives the poster a clear line that looks strong in any of the styles.
