Te mapa
Kinoshita lies in the Ina Valley in southern Nagano Prefecture. The Tenryū River carved this long corridor between the Central Alps to the west and the Southern Alps to the east. The valley floor and its terraces are densely farmed and settled. On the map they appear as a strip of streets, rail and fields running roughly north to south.
Streets tend to follow the contours of the land. Older roads run along the terraces, and newer ones branch toward residential areas. Rice paddies and orchards fill the gaps, forming the fine patchwork typical of rural Japan. Streams descend from the mountains in parallel lines toward the Tenryū, cutting shallow channels across the slope.
A Kinoshita map poster shows a working valley. A railway line and a main road thread its length, houses cluster along them, and fields stretch to the edge of the forest. It is not a famous place, but its setting between two alpine ranges gives the map a quiet order that rewards close attention.
The Tenryū runs along the valley floor, collecting streams from both mountain ranges on either side. Its course gives the whole map a strong natural axis from north to south.
Rice paddies and orchards cover the valley terraces in small, regular plots. In black and white, they form a delicate patchwork around the built-up areas.
Small streams descend from the surrounding slopes toward the river in near-parallel lines. They add rhythm to the map and mark the gentle fall of the land.
