Te mapa
Kani lies in southern Gifu Prefecture, in the Mino region, where the Kiso River comes out of the hills toward the Nōbi Plain. The river forms much of its southern boundary, and a smaller river, the Kani, flows through the city to join it. On the map, the older centre sits on low ground near the water, with newer districts on higher land around it.
Since the late twentieth century, Kani has grown as a commuter town for Nagoya. Many of its hilly areas were developed as planned residential districts. On a Kani map poster they appear as tight clusters of curving streets and cul-de-sacs, very different from the straighter roads of the older settlements and the scattered farmland between them.
Kani is home to the Gifu Prefectural Flower Festival Commemorative Park, known for its very large rose collection. The park appears as an open green area within the built-up pattern. With river, hills, housing estates and gardens, the city has a varied, layered plan.
The broad Kiso River runs along the south of the city, a wide curve of water that separates Kani from the neighbouring towns across it.
Planned housing districts on the higher ground form compact clusters of curving streets, each a distinct pattern on the printed map.
The prefectural Flower Festival Commemorative Park, famous for its roses, forms a large open space among the surrounding neighbourhoods.

Koteā ko Kani
Kani is where many families have built a home within reach of Nagoya, and where others grew up among its hills and rivers. This map gives that quiet town a clear, lasting form.
