Te mapa
Ōgaki lies on the western edge of the Nōbi plain in Gifu Prefecture, where abundant groundwater rises in springs across the city. From above, waterways are everywhere: the old castle moats, canals such as the Suimon river, and larger rivers like the Ibi flowing past to the west. The streets around the castle keep the shape of the old castle town.
It is often called the 'water city' for its springs. Ōgaki is also where the poet Matsuo Bashō ended his journey recorded in Oku no Hosomichi, 'The Narrow Road to the Deep North', and a memorial marks the spot along the canal. Ōgaki Castle, rebuilt after wartime destruction, stands at the centre.
An Ōgaki map poster shows a city laced with water. The canals and moats draw soft, winding lines through a dense urban fabric, the castle forms a compact centre, and the rivers frame the plain. The result is delicate and intricate, well suited to monochrome.

This canal winds through the city past the Bashō memorial, drawing a gentle curving line through the dense urban blocks.
The Ibi and other rivers cross the Nōbi plain nearby, their broad channels framing the city to the west.
