Te mapa
Kirando lies on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika in the Rukwa region of western Tanzania. The settlement stretches along the water, with houses and lanes following the shoreline and hills rising behind it. From above, the map is divided almost in half: an irregular band of settlement on one side, and the vast open surface of the lake on the other.
Lake Tanganyika is one of the longest and deepest freshwater lakes in the world, and life here is closely tied to it. Fishing boats, landing places and small markets shape the lakeside, while paths lead inland to farmland on the slopes. A Kirando map poster captures this simple, powerful arrangement of land, shore and water.
The lake lies along the Western Rift, and the land around Kirando reflects that geology, rising from the water toward the escarpment of the rift. On a wider frame the coastline appears as a long, clean edge, broken by small bays and headlands, and the town becomes a delicate thread along it.
Homes and lanes follow the edge of Lake Tanganyika in a long, narrow band, drawing a fine, irregular line against the open water.
The lake fills a large part of the frame, a wide, calm surface that gives the poster a strong sense of space and scale.
Behind the shore, the land climbs toward the escarpment of the Western Rift, with paths and small roads winding up the slopes to inland farms.
