Te mapa
Kiratu, more often spelled Karatu, lies in the highlands of the Arusha region, on the road that climbs from Lake Manyara toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is the last sizeable town before the gate to the crater highlands, and many safari lodges and campsites are located in the area. Coffee farms and other cultivated land cover the slopes around it.
On a map, the main road runs through the town, lined with shops and businesses, and residential streets branch out on either side. Beyond them, the landscape changes to farmland crossed by tracks and small roads, with green hillsides rising toward the forested rim of the crater highlands. The terrain is higher and more varied than the dry Rift country below.
A Kiratu map poster shows a town between farmland and the wild. The road carries the eye up toward Ngorongoro, the streets gather close to it, and the fields and hills give the composition depth. For people who live and farm here, and for travellers who stayed a night on the way to the crater, the map has a clear and personal meaning.
The main road passes through town on its way up to the conservation area. It is the central line of the map and the route most visitors know.
Businesses and homes line the main road, with side streets spreading outward. The town's shape follows the route rather than a planned grid.
Coffee farms and fields cover the surrounding slopes. On the poster they form a wide, lightly textured area around the built-up streets.

Koteā ko Kiratu
Kiratu is home for its farmers and lodge workers, and a memorable stop for travellers heading to the crater. A map brings together the road, the town and the green highlands in one calm image.
Choose the spelling you prefer for the title, add a date or a lodge name in the subtitle, and edit the coordinates. Pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper suits the highland farmland.
