Te mapa
Kuoyiqi lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, in one of the oases that line the southern rim of the Taklamakan Desert. On the map, the settlement is surrounded by cultivated fields laid out in a regular pattern, with irrigation channels and poplar-lined roads marking the edges of plots. Beyond the oasis, the land becomes empty desert.
Life in this region depends on meltwater rivers descending from the Kunlun Mountains to the south. These rivers feed networks of canals that make farming possible. From above, the result is a sharply defined green area with straight field lines, bordered by sand and gravel where the water ends.
A Kuoyiqi map poster captures this clear division between irrigated land and desert. The streets of the settlement form a small cluster, the field grid extends around it, and the open edges of the frame suggest the vast space beyond. It is a simple, powerful composition shaped entirely by water.
Cultivated land surrounds the settlement in a regular pattern of rectangular plots, divided by irrigation channels and roads lined with rows of trees.
Canals fed by rivers from the Kunlun Mountains cross the oasis in straight lines, carrying the water that makes farming possible here.
Where irrigation ends, the fields give way to open desert, creating a clear boundary between detailed linework and empty space on the map.

Koteā ko Kuoyiqi
Kuoyiqi is a place defined by the effort to farm at the edge of a desert. A map poster keeps that pattern of fields, channels and lanes in view, whether you live there or have moved away.
