Te mapa
Kuppam lies in the south of Andhra Pradesh, close to the meeting point of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The town sits on a dry upland plateau dotted with rocky hills and small tanks, and from above its centre forms a compact network of streets around the main roads and the railway.
That position between three states shapes daily life here, with Telugu, Tamil and Kannada all heard in the town. Kuppam is also home to the Dravidian University, which was set up to study and promote the Dravidian languages and cultures of southern India.
A Kuppam map poster shows the town and its setting: the dense centre, the railway line cutting through it, and the scattered water tanks and fields around it. In black and white the pattern is clear and quiet, a good fit for a place that sits at a crossroads in more than one sense.
The town lies close to the borders of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, which gives it a mixed linguistic and cultural character.
A rail line passes through town, a straight mark on the map that connects Kuppam with Bengaluru to the west and Tamil Nadu to the east.
The university campus on the outskirts is a large, open footprint on the map and one of the institutions the town is best known for.
