Te mapa
Kutno is in Łódź Voivodeship, in the flat centre of Poland, on the small Ochnia River. From above, the town has a compact core around the old market square, surrounded by residential estates, and it is shaped strongly by the railway. Kutno is an important junction on the main line between Warsaw and Poznań, and the tracks and yards cut a broad band through the map.
The town gave its name to a key moment in the September 1939 campaign: the Battle of the Bzura, fought in the area around Kutno, was the largest battle of the German invasion of Poland. More peacefully, Kutno calls itself the city of roses and holds an annual rose festival, a tradition tied to the rose growing that used to be common in the area.
A Kutno map poster shows a town of distinct parts: the older grid near the square, blocks of later housing, the rail corridor, and the flat farmland beyond. In black and white, the long parallel lines of the railway play against the compact streets, giving the poster its structure.
Several lines meet at Kutno, with tracks and sidings forming a wide band across the town. On the map it is the most prominent straight feature, dividing north from south.
The historic centre is organised around a market square, with a denser, older grid of streets around it. It forms the compact heart of the map.
The small river winds through the town. Its narrow course and the green strips along it add a soft, curving line to an otherwise regular plan.
