Te mapa
Kwinana lies south of Perth, on the shore of Cockburn Sound, and its map has two very different parts. Along the coast is a heavy industrial strip with a refinery, processing plants, port facilities and wide service roads. Inland, separated from the coast by buffer land and bushland, are the residential suburbs. They were planned from the 1950s onward, with curving streets and neighbourhoods built around shared green space.
The name comes from a shipwreck: the SS Kwinana was wrecked off this coast in the early twentieth century, and the town took its name. The Kwinana Freeway, one of Perth's main roads heading south, carries the name through the wider metropolitan area and runs to the east of the suburbs as a strong north–south line.
A Kwinana map poster makes the town's plan easy to read. On one side are the large geometric blocks of industry facing the sound. In the middle is a green buffer, and further in are the rounded, looping streets of the suburbs with parks at their centres. It is an unusual map for a town of its size, closer to a planning diagram than to an old grown settlement.
The coastline along Cockburn Sound is lined with industrial sites, jetties and port facilities. Their large, geometric shapes stand out clearly against the calm water of the sound.
The residential areas follow a mid-century plan of curving streets and loops around shared parks. They look soft and rounded compared with the straight industrial lots nearby.
The Kwinana Freeway runs north–south east of the town as a strong continuous line. It links the area with Perth and the southern suburbs.

Koteā ko Kwinana
Kwinana is a place people build a life in: first homes, family backyards, jobs on the coast. A map of it tells that story honestly, industry and suburb together, and its clear planned shapes look good at any size.
You can set a title and subtitle, perhaps your street or the year you moved in, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the planned layout well.
