Te mapa
La Thuile lies in a high side valley in the northwest of Italy's Aosta Valley, close to the French border. The map shows a modest village centre, a handful of outlying hamlets and a single main road that winds up the valley and continues toward the Little St Bernard Pass. Mountain streams cut through the municipality, and much of its large area is open high ground.
The road over the Little St Bernard has been used since Roman times as a route between Italy and Gaul, and La Thuile grew along it. In winter the pass road is closed and the ski area links instead with La Rosière on the French side, forming a single cross-border domain. To the south lies the Rutor glacier, whose meltwater feeds a series of waterfalls.
A La Thuile map poster is mostly landscape: a small cluster of streets, hairpin bends climbing toward the pass and wide mountain terrain around them. It suits someone who knows the village well and wants a quiet, uncluttered reminder of it on the wall rather than a busy city plan.
The main road leaves the village and climbs in a series of hairpin bends toward the Little St Bernard Pass and France, the longest continuous line on the map.
The settlement is split between a compact centre and smaller hamlets spread across the valley floor and slopes, each a short knot of streets.
The ski area crosses the border to join La Rosière in France, so a single day of skiing can move between two countries and two languages.

Koteā ko La Thuile
La Thuile is a quieter choice than the larger Alpine names, and people who ski or hike there often grow attached to it. A map of the village keeps that attachment in view, with the mountains left open around a few simple lines.
