Te mapa
Lentini is in eastern Sicily, in the province of Syracuse, where the hills rise from the southern edge of the Catania plain. It continues one of the oldest Greek settlements on the island. Leontinoi was founded by colonists from Chalcidian Naxos in the eighth century BC, and remains of the ancient city lie on the hills just south of the modern centre.
From above the town reads as streets draped over uneven ground. The centre gathers in a valley between ridges, and roads climb out of it in steep, winding lines. Directly to the south, Lentini's streets run into those of Carlentini, a town founded in the sixteenth century under Charles V, so the two towns form one continuous built-up area.
Lentini is also known as the birthplace of Gorgias, the sophist and teacher of rhetoric who travelled to Athens as an envoy in 427 BC. A Lentini map poster puts that long past into a simple drawing: a hill town on the edge of a wide plain, its street lines following the land.
The streets of Lentini run straight into those of Carlentini on the higher ground to the south. On the poster, two separately founded towns read as one irregular urban shape.
The town is spread across valleys and hill spurs, not flat land. That gives the map short, bending streets, sudden changes of direction, and bare slopes between the built-up areas.
North of town the land flattens into the Piana di Catania, one of Sicily's largest plains. In the frame, the dense hill town contrasts with the open agricultural ground.

Koteā ko Lentini
Lentini suits anyone with Sicilian roots in the province of Syracuse and anyone who reads the classics. Few towns can trace themselves back to a Greek colony almost three thousand years old, and a quiet map lets the street pattern carry that history without any decoration.
You can set your own title and subtitle, change the coordinates line or add a date, and choose between Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper and Sand give a warm, archival look, and Noir makes the winding streets stand out.
