Te mapa
Likisá, also written Liquiçá, lies on the northern coast of Timor-Leste, west of Dili. From above, the town is shaped by two strong edges: the shoreline on one side and the mountains rising sharply behind it on the other. The settlement stretches along the coastal road, with only a few streets reaching up into the slopes before the terrain takes over.
The coastal road that links Dili with the western part of the country runs straight through town, and most of the map organises itself along that single line. Short side streets lead down to the water or up toward the hills, and small streams cut across the plain on their way to the sea. The town is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name.
A Likisá map poster is defined by contrast: the calm, empty area of the sea, the fine line of the town, and the heavier texture of the hills. The town's church is remembered as the site of a massacre in April 1999, in the period before independence, and the place holds a significant position in the country's recent history.
The coastline forms the long lower edge of the town, a clean boundary between the settled strip and the wide, open surface of the sea.
The main road west from Dili runs through the whole town, acting as its spine, with most buildings and side streets attached along its length.
Steep slopes rise close behind the coast, limiting where the town can grow and giving the upper part of the poster a dense, folded texture.
