Te mapa
Lillerød is the main town of Allerød Municipality in North Zealand, between Copenhagen and Hillerød. The S-train line runs through it from south to north, with Allerød station close to the centre. On a map, the town spreads out on both sides of the tracks, with residential neighbourhoods of curving roads and closes, and small lakes and woods around them.
The municipality's name has a place in the history of science. The Allerød oscillation, a warm phase near the end of the last Ice Age, was named after deposits studied in a clay pit here. On today's map there is little sign of that, but the lakes, gentle hollows and wooded areas speak of a landscape shaped by the ice.
A Lillerød map poster suits the calm Danish style: clear, uncluttered, and with plenty of green space around the streets. The rail line gives the composition a firm spine, and the neighbourhoods, woods and water fill the space around it. It works especially well for families who commute to Copenhagen but live in North Zealand.
The railway runs straight through the town toward Hillerød, with the station near the centre. On the poster it forms the main vertical axis.
Residential areas with curving streets and closes spread out from the centre. Their soft shapes give the map an organised yet relaxed texture.
Small lakes and patches of forest surround the town. They open up the composition and show the glacial landscape of North Zealand.
