Te mapa
Lino Lakes lies in Anoka County, north of Saint Paul, and as its name suggests, water shapes the map. A chain of lakes linked by Rice Creek runs through the city. Much of that chain is protected in the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve, which shows up as a large area of water, marsh and woodland.
Neighbourhoods fit into the dry land between the lakes. Their curving streets and cul-de-sacs wrap around the shorelines and wetlands, so the street pattern looks soft rather than gridded. In places, straight township roads cut across the pattern. They are a reminder of the rural grid that existed before the suburbs arrived.
Both branches of Interstate 35, the 35W and the 35E, pass through the area. They draw long lines across the map. A Lino Lakes map poster balances those strong transport lines against the irregular, looping shapes of lakes and marshes that make up much of the city.

The Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Park Reserve protects wide areas of water, wetland and woodland, which give the poster large calm areas near its centre.
Interstate 35W and Interstate 35E both cross the area. Their long, straight lines contrast with the curving suburban streets and the uneven shorelines.

For families who moved out to the lakes, or grew up paddling Rice Creek, Lino Lakes is a very recognisable shape. A map of it looks as much like a landscape drawing as a street plan.
