Te mapa
Longview sits in the piney woods of East Texas, mostly in Gregg County, between Dallas and Shreveport. The map shows a classic American small city: a compact downtown grid near the railway, long arterial roads running out in straight lines, and residential neighbourhoods spreading across low, wooded hills with curving streets and small lakes and ponds.
Interstate 20 runs along the southern side of the city, and the Sabine River lies beyond it, winding through woodland and bottomland. Longview grew as a railroad town in the 1870s and then boomed after the discovery of the East Texas Oil Field in 1930, one of the largest oil fields ever found in the continental United States.
Today the economy mixes manufacturing, energy and healthcare, and the city is home to LeTourneau University. A Longview map poster lays out its broad, open structure clearly, from the tight downtown blocks to the loops of the suburbs and the green corridor of the river that follows the southern edge of town.
The historic centre forms a small, regular grid by the railway, the densest part of the map and the core from which the main roads radiate.
Long, straight roads stretch across the city in several directions, while Interstate 20 draws a strong line along the southern side.
South of the interstate the Sabine River meanders through wooded lowland, adding a loose, natural curve to the bottom of the composition.
