Te mapa
Lubango sits high on the Huíla plateau in southwestern Angola, at an altitude of well over a thousand metres, which gives it a milder climate than the coast. It was founded in the Portuguese colonial period and was known for a time as Sá da Bandeira. The centre has an orderly layout of streets and squares, surrounded by newer neighbourhoods that have spread over the plateau.
Hills and ridges ring the city. On one of them stands the Cristo Rei statue, visible from much of the town. Not far away the plateau drops sharply at the Tundavala Gap, where cliffs look out over the lowlands, and the Serra da Leba road descends the escarpment in a famous series of hairpin bends.
A Lubango map poster shows a city defined by its setting. The regular centre gives way to sprawling outer districts, and the streets stop abruptly where the land rises into hills. The surrounding blank spaces represent the plateau and its cliffs, framing the city and hinting at the landscape just beyond the edge of the map.

A ridge above the city carries the Cristo Rei statue. On the map, the hills around it form open spaces where the streets give way.
Lubango spreads across the Huíla highland, with escarpments such as Tundavala nearby, giving the city a strong sense of altitude and enclosure.
