Lumezzane lies in the hills north of Brescia, in Lombardy, in a narrow side valley off Val Trompia. The town is made up of several villages that grew together along the valley floor, so on a map it looks long and thin, with a main road running through it and streets climbing the slopes wherever the ground allows.
Lumezzane is known for metalworking. Its workshops and factories have long produced cutlery, taps, valves and other metal goods, and industrial buildings sit side by side with houses throughout the valley. The steep, wooded slopes above them are mostly empty, which gives the map a strong contrast between the busy valley floor and the quiet hillsides.
