Magalang lies in the province of Pampanga on the flat plain of Central Luzon, close to the lower slopes of Mount Arayat, the lone volcano that rises above the surrounding farmland. From above, the town centre is a small cluster of streets around the church and plaza, with roads spreading outward toward the barangays and neighbouring towns.
Most of the municipality is agricultural. Rice fields and farm plots cover the plain, and the roads between them form long, straight lines with small settlements along them. Toward the east, the ground begins to rise toward Arayat, and the map becomes more open. The main campus of Pampanga State Agricultural University also lies within the municipality.
