Te mapa
Manjīl sits in Iran's Gilan Province at a narrow break in the Alborz mountains, where the Sefidrud River forces its way from the interior plateau toward the Caspian lowlands. The town fills a tight corridor. Steep slopes rise on either side, the river runs along the valley floor, and the main road and railway between Tehran and the Caspian coast squeeze through the same gap.
That corridor gives Manjīl its best-known feature: wind. Air is funnelled through the valley, and the surrounding ridges carry one of Iran's earliest large wind farms. Just upstream, the Manjil Dam holds back the reservoir formed where the Qezel Owzan and Shahrud rivers meet. On a map, the reservoir's branching outline is the largest shape in the landscape.
A Manjīl map poster shows a town shaped almost entirely by terrain: a narrow ribbon of streets, a river and a dam on the edge of the mountains. The area is also remembered for the 1990 Manjil–Rudbar earthquake, one of the most destructive in Iran's modern history. Much of the town was rebuilt after it.
The river cuts through the Alborz on its way to the Caspian. On the poster, the valley forms a strong diagonal that sets the direction of the streets, the highway and the railway.
The reservoir at the meeting of the Qezel Owzan and Shahrud spreads upstream in branching arms. Its shape adds a large, irregular water body to the edge of the composition.
With mountains close on both sides, the streets pack tightly into the flat ground. The contrast between dense town and empty slopes gives the map a strong sense of relief.

Koteā ko Manjīl
For people from Gilan, or travellers who have driven the road between Tehran and the Caspian, Manjīl is an unmistakable landmark. The poster turns its dramatic gorge setting into a restrained, graphic piece.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line in the lettering you prefer. Five styles are available: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper and Sand suit the mountain landscape, and Blueprint highlights the river and reservoir.
