Te mapa
Marcos Juárez lies in the southeast of Córdoba province, in the heart of the Argentine Pampas. The land is almost completely flat, and the town follows a clear square grid of blocks, with plazas at regular intervals. The railway and the national route between Rosario and Córdoba pass through, and farmland stretches to the horizon in large rectangles.
Like many Pampas towns, Marcos Juárez grew around the railway in the late nineteenth century, serving the grain and livestock farms nearby. Agriculture remains central, and the surrounding fields of soy, wheat and maize define the landscape. The regular geometry of the map comes from planning, not terrain, since there are few hills or rivers to bend the lines.
A Marcos Juárez map poster is an exercise in order. The town grid, the straight railway and highway, and the field boundaries all line up in right angles. In black and white that geometry is calm and satisfying, and it looks quite different from the irregular maps of older European towns.
The town follows an even grid of square blocks with plazas set into it. It is a textbook example of Pampas town planning.
The railway and the national highway cross the town in long straight lines. They connect it to Rosario and Córdoba and give the map a strong axis.
Large rectangular farm plots surround the town in every direction. At wider scales their boundaries create a vast, regular pattern around the grid.
