Te mapa
Maruim lies in the eastern part of Sergipe, a short distance inland from the state capital, Aracaju. From above it is a compact town with an older centre of connected streets and squares, surrounded by later neighbourhoods and then by fields. The countryside around it is low and gently rolling, giving the edges of the map an irregular, organic character.
The town belongs to the historic Cotinguiba valley, the heartland of Sergipe's sugar economy in the colonial and imperial periods, and it was one of the province's more important commercial centres in the nineteenth century. Traces of that period remain in its churches and older buildings, even though the town today is modest in size.
A Maruim map poster suits a closer crop that brings out the pattern of the centre, where streets meet at angles rather than on a strict grid. Sand works gently with the setting, and Noir gives the small town a striking, graphic presence. It is a modest subject, and the poster treats it with the same care as a large city.
The oldest streets form a small, tightly connected cluster around churches and squares, a layout that grew over time rather than being planned in one stroke.
Roads link Maruim to Aracaju and to the neighbouring towns of the valley, stretching away across the countryside as the main lines on a wider map.
The built-up area gives way quickly to fields and open ground, so the town appears as a distinct island of streets within a quieter landscape.
