Mattapan lies in the southern part of Boston, where the city meets Milton across the Neponset River. On the map, the river forms its southern border, and Blue Hill Avenue runs through the neighbourhood as its main spine. Mattapan Square is the commercial centre, where several major roads meet near the river.
