Te mapa
Māvelikara is an old town in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, on the banks of the Achankovil River. Like much of central Kerala, it does not have a sharp edge. On a map the town spreads through a fine mesh of lanes and roads, with houses, temples and gardens running continuously into neighbouring villages.
The river curves along the town and gives the map its main natural line. Around it, paddy fields and waterways break up the settled land. Māvelikara is known for the Kandiyoor temple, one of the oldest in the region, and for a stone Buddha figure that points to a much older past in this part of Kerala.
A Māvelikara map poster shows the intricate pattern typical of the state's river towns: roads that twist between compounds, small bridges, and the sweep of the Achankovil. In black and white the density of lanes becomes almost textile-like, which makes the print both detailed and calm.
The river runs past the town in broad bends. It is the strongest natural feature on the map and separates the town from the land to the south.
Narrow roads wind between house compounds and gardens, creating a fine, irregular mesh that carries the town seamlessly into surrounding villages.
Rice fields and small waterways interrupt the built-up area, leaving open patches that give the busy lane pattern room to breathe.
