Te mapa
Mersing lies on the east coast of Johor, in peninsular Malaysia, where the Mersing River meets the South China Sea. From above, the town sits on the banks of the river near its mouth, with a compact centre, the jetty area and roads leading along the coast north and south. Beyond the town, the map opens to plantations and forest inland.
The town is best known as the main departure point for ferries to Tioman Island and the other islands of the Seribuat archipelago. Fishing boats still use the river, and the town serves as a stopover for travellers heading offshore. During the northeast monsoon, ferry services reduce and the pace of the town slows.
A Mersing map poster shows a small town shaped by its river and its role as a gateway. The winding river mouth, the jetties and the coastline form the main features, with streets clustered on the banks. In black and white, the edge between land and sea stands out, and the open water hints at the islands beyond.
The river winds through town and opens into the sea, its banks lined with fishing boats and the centre of the settlement.
The jetty area near the river mouth is where boats leave for Tioman and neighbouring islands, the busiest point on the town's map.
A coastal road runs north and south from Mersing, a long line following the shore toward other Johor and Pahang towns.
