Te mapa
Möng La lies in the far east of Myanmar’s Shan State, right on the border with China’s Yunnan Province. From above it appears as a tight cluster of streets in a valley floor, surrounded by hills that leave little room for the town to spread. The border itself runs close enough that the grid seems to lean toward it.
The town is the main settlement of a special administrative region, and it is oriented strongly toward its neighbour across the frontier. Chinese currency and Chinese time are commonly used here, a detail that says more about the place than any landmark. A Möng La map poster captures that frontier geometry: a small, dense core with roads reaching toward the crossing.
Beyond the built-up area the map quickly becomes sparse. Roads thin into single lines that wind through the surrounding uplands, following valleys and ridges. The contrast between the compact town and the open, hilly country around it gives the print a clear, almost diagrammatic structure.
The town sits directly on the Myanmar–China frontier, and the road network is drawn toward the crossing, giving the whole map a clear sense of direction.
The central streets fill a narrow valley floor in a fairly regular pattern, a dense block of lines framed by empty hillside on several sides.
Outside the centre, a handful of roads wind away through the Shan hills, turning with the terrain and fading into long, thin threads across the frame.

Koteā ko Möng La
Möng La is a place with an unusual position on the map, a town defined as much by the line beside it as by its own streets. For someone who has lived or worked there, or travelled this far corner of Shan State, the print holds a very specific memory.
Add your own title, a date or the coordinates of the town, and pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The HD files cost $9 and come in six print sizes, and printed posters are also available.
