Te mapa
Mu-se lies in the far north of Myanmar's Shan State, beside the Shweli River, which forms part of the border with China's Yunnan Province. On a map the river is the dominant line, looping through a broad, flat valley, while the town's streets spread across the plain on the Myanmar side and the Chinese city of Ruili lies just beyond the boundary.
Mu-se is the country's busiest overland trade gateway with China, and much of the town is organised around that role. Wide roads, warehouses, depots and the trade zone known as 105th Mile sit on the approaches to the crossing, and the main highway south toward Lashio and Mandalay leaves town as a firm line winding into the hills.
Around the valley floor, fields and villages give way to wooded slopes. A Mu-se map poster shows a place defined by its position: a working border town, the river bending beside it, and the road that carries goods and people between two countries, all drawn with the restraint of fine black lines on a pale ground.
The river winds across a wide plain in slow loops, marking part of the international boundary and giving the map a sinuous, natural line that anchors the whole composition.
Roads converge on the crossing points toward Ruili, where trade facilities and depots form a dense cluster that shows how much of the town's life faces the border.
The main highway south leaves Mu-se through the Shan hills toward Lashio and Mandalay, a single strong line tying the frontier to the rest of Myanmar.

Koteā ko Mu-se
Mu-se means something specific to those who have worked in cross-border trade, driven the long road from Mandalay, or grew up in the Shweli valley. A clean map of the town and river is a fitting reminder of a place defined by movement.
