Te mapa
Mohács sits on the right bank of the Danube in southern Hungary, close to the Croatian and Serbian borders. The river dominates the map. Across from the town lies Mohács Island, a long stretch of fields and woods between the main channel and a side branch. The town looks out over a wide band of water and green instead of another shore of streets.
The town itself is compact, with a central square, streets running parallel to the river and newer districts rising gently away from the bank. No bridge crosses the Danube here. A ferry links the two sides, a small line on the map that matters a great deal locally. Outside town, a memorial park marks the site of the 1526 battle against the Ottomans, a turning point in Hungarian history.
Mohács is also known for Busójárás, the late-winter carnival in which masked figures parade through the streets and cross the river, recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage. A Mohács map poster captures the setting for that tradition: the river, the island, the ferry crossing and the streets that fill with the carnival every year.
The town stretches along the right bank of the Danube. The broad river is the main shape on the map, and the waterfront streets follow its curve.
Opposite the town, a large river island of fields and woodland fills the other side of the frame and gives the composition an unusually open counterweight.
There is no bridge at Mohács, so a ferry connects the two banks. Its short route across the water is a small but telling detail on the poster.
