Te mapa
Morong is a municipality on the western coast of the Bataan peninsula, facing the South China Sea. Forested mountains rise behind it, and a river runs to the coast near the town centre. From 1980 until the mid-1990s the Philippine Refugee Processing Center operated here, and many thousands of refugees from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia passed through before resettling abroad.
On the map, Morong is a small, dense centre near the river mouth. Coastal roads run along the shoreline, and the road network thins quickly as it moves inland into the hills. The coast itself is broken into beaches, small coves and headlands, so the western edge of the map is detailed and uneven.
A Morong map poster sets that small town against its larger landscape: sea on one side, hills and forest on the other, and the river linking them. For former residents of the refugee centre and their families, the place carries a meaning far beyond its size.
The shoreline runs along the South China Sea in a series of coves and points. It gives the whole poster a detailed, irregular edge along one side.
A river winds down from the hills and reaches the coast near the town centre. The built area gathers close around its lower course.
Forested high ground rises inland, and only a few winding roads cross it. The result is a calm, open area that balances the busy coastline.
