Te mapa
Mzuzu, the capital of Malawi's Northern Region, sits in hilly country near the Viphya Plateau. Its map reflects the terrain: roads curve around slopes and valleys, and there is no single grid. The city centre forms a compact core, with neighbourhoods scattered across the surrounding hills.
Main roads connect Mzuzu to the lakeshore and to other parts of the north, leaving the city in several directions. Between them, residential areas and open land alternate, and small streams run through the valleys. The campus of Mzuzu University occupies a distinct area within the city.
Mzuzu is a relatively young city, grown in the twentieth century as a centre for forestry and agriculture in the north. Lake Malawi lies not far to the east. A Mzuzu map poster shows a city shaped by hills, woodland and the roads that link it to the rest of the region.
Streets curve around slopes rather than following a grid, producing flowing lines that give the poster a soft, organic character.
The commercial core is small and dense, where main roads meet, standing out clearly against the looser residential areas around it.
Routes towards Lake Malawi and other northern towns leave the city in several directions, marking Mzuzu's role as a regional crossroads.
