Te mapa
Nacala lies on the coast of Nampula province in northern Mozambique, on a deep, sheltered bay that opens to the Indian Ocean through a narrow entrance. The bay is the main feature of the map, a large, irregularly shaped area of water surrounded by hills. It is considered one of the deepest natural harbours on the east coast of Africa.
The port lies along the shore, with quays, storage areas and rail sidings forming straight, regular shapes. Behind it, the city climbs the slopes above the bay. Streets in the older sections follow a planned layout, while newer neighbourhoods spread in a denser, less regular pattern across the hills.
The Nacala Corridor railway runs from the port inland to Malawi, making the city a key outlet for goods from the interior. A Nacala map poster shows the deep bay, the port area, the rail line leading away from the coast and the neighbourhoods on the surrounding slopes, all in a clear monochrome layout.
The sheltered bay, known for its unusual depth, is the largest shape on the map and gives the city its reason for existence.
Docks, storage yards and rail sidings line the shore, forming precise geometric shapes along the edge of the water.
The railway leaving the port heads inland toward Malawi, forming a long line that connects the coastal city with the interior.
