Te mapa
Nansana is a municipality in Wakiso District, just beyond Kampala's north-western edge. It has grown quickly as the capital has expanded, and much of it is residential: homes, small businesses and trading centres spread along the roads leading out of the city. From above, the built-up area reads as an irregular network rather than a planned grid, following the land rather than a ruler.
The terrain is typical of the country around Kampala, with rounded hills separated by low, damp valleys. Roads tend to run along ridges and hillsides, while the valley floors often remain wetland or open ground. On a map this creates a distinctive rhythm of dense streets interrupted by empty, winding bands where the land dips.
A main road running north-west from Kampala passes through Nansana and acts as its axis, with smaller lanes branching off into neighbourhoods. A Nansana map poster captures a place still taking shape, where each year adds new streets at the edges and the pattern of hills and valleys continues to guide how the town grows.
The principal road out of Kampala runs through Nansana, a clear thread on the map with trading centres and side streets gathering along its length.
Built-up ridges alternate with low-lying valleys, so the density of streets rises and falls across the map in a way that mirrors the landscape.
Valley floors often stay open as wetland, forming winding pale bands between neighbourhoods that give the composition breathing space and a sense of the terrain beneath.
