Te mapa
Naranjal lies in Guayas province in Ecuador, on the flat, hot coastal lowland between the Andes foothills and the Gulf of Guayaquil. The land around the town is almost entirely agricultural. Plantations of bananas and cacao, rivers, and further towards the coast shrimp ponds and mangrove channels cover the map.
The town itself forms a compact grid, the typical Spanish-American pattern of regular blocks around a central square, with the main road running through it. Out from there, the map changes character completely. Straight farm tracks, irrigation lines and the winding shapes of rivers take over, and near the coast the mangrove estuaries form an intricate, branching pattern.
The Manglares Churute Ecological Reserve, a protected area of mangroves and dry forest, lies in this canton. A Naranjal map poster suits people from the town or the farms around it, and anyone who knows this stretch of the Ecuadorian coast.
Regular blocks around the central square form a neat, compact core. It stands out clearly against the flat farmland around it.
Banana and cacao farms stretch in every direction with straight tracks between them. At poster scale they create a quiet, even texture.
Towards the gulf, mangrove estuaries and the Churute reserve form a branching network of channels, the most intricate lines in the area.
