Te mapa
Nattakam lies just south-west of Kottayam town in central Kerala, on the low land that slopes toward the backwaters of Vembanad Lake. On a map it looks less like a single settlement than a continuous spread of homes along roads and waterways, interspersed with paddy fields, coconut palms and small patches of green.
Water is everywhere in this landscape. Rivers and canals wind through the area, and the Kottayam port and container terminal at Nattakam uses these inland waterways to move cargo toward Kochi. The area is also home to a long-established government college, part of Kottayam's reputation as one of the most literate places in India.
The pattern on the map is soft and organic, with roads following the riverbanks and very few straight lines anywhere. A Nattakam map poster turns that watery, green geography into a clean black-and-white composition, a quiet way to hold on to a place whose fields and channels change with every monsoon.
Canals and rivers meander through the area toward Vembanad Lake, giving the map a network of curving waterways with narrow strips of land between them.
Kottayam's port and container terminal sits on the waterway here, an unusual industrial detail on a map of paddy and palm, linking the town to Kochi by water.
Low paddy fields and coconut groves fill the gaps between houses, so the built area appears as ribbons along roads rather than solid blocks.
