Te mapa
Nördlingen in Bavarian Swabia is one of the most striking town plans in Europe. Its old town is almost perfectly round, enclosed by a medieval wall that survives in full and can still be walked around. The town sits inside the Ries, a crater about 25 kilometres wide made by a meteorite impact roughly fifteen million years ago.
On the map the wall forms a clean circle, broken only by its gates. Main streets run from the gates towards the centre, where St. George's Church and its tall tower, known locally as Daniel, stand at the heart of the plan. Between the radial streets, rings of lanes follow the curve of the wall.
The local stone, suevite, was formed by the impact and contains tiny diamonds, and it was used to build St. George's. A Nördlingen map poster makes the most of this rare geometry: a circle inside a circle, with a medieval town at the centre of a crater.
The medieval wall runs unbroken around the old town and can be walked in full, drawing a nearly perfect circle on the map.
Main streets lead from the gates towards the centre like spokes of a wheel, crossed by curved lanes that follow the line of the wall.
The late Gothic church and its tower, called Daniel, stand at the centre of the circle. The church was built from suevite, stone shaped by the meteorite.

Koteā ko Nördlingen
Nördlingen is a rare case where the map itself is the attraction: a clean circle that reads instantly on a wall. It suits design lovers, travellers and anyone interested in geology or medieval towns.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates, perhaps the date of a visit, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 HD download covers six sizes; printed posters come on matte paper with an optional wooden frame.
