Te mapa
Noisiel lies on the south bank of the Marne in Seine-et-Marne, within the new town of Marne-la-Vallée east of Paris. The river forms its northern edge, and on a map its broad curve anchors the composition. The town itself combines older and newer layers: a historic industrial site, a planned workers' village and modern residential districts.
In the nineteenth century, the Menier family built one of the largest chocolate factories in the world here, including the Moulin Saulnier, a mill over the Marne known for its early iron frame. Nearby, they laid out a cité ouvrière of regular streets and paired houses for their workers. Today the site houses offices, and the workers' village remains.
A Noisiel map poster brings together these distinct patterns: the river, the orderly grid of the workers' village, the parkland and the curving streets of the new town. In monochrome, each layer of the town's history reads clearly.
The former chocolate works, including the Moulin Saulnier over the Marne, stand at the river's edge and mark the town's industrial origin.
Regular streets of identical houses built by the Menier family form a distinctive planned grid, a legacy of nineteenth-century paternalism.
The river runs along the northern edge of the town. Its wide curve gives the map a strong natural boundary.
