Te mapa
Noisy-le-Sec lies in Seine-Saint-Denis, a few kilometres east of the Paris ring road. Its map is dominated by infrastructure: broad rail corridors and marshalling yards cut through the town, splitting it into distinct districts, while the Canal de l'Ourcq runs along its northern side. Between these strong lines, residential streets fill the gaps in a close, irregular pattern.
The rail junction made Noisy-le-Sec strategically important, and in April 1944 Allied bombing aimed at the yards destroyed much of the town. The rebuilding that followed left a mix of post-war housing, surviving older streets and experimental reconstruction projects, including a well-known group of prototype houses from different countries. On the map, the result is a varied, patchwork texture.
Today the town is served by RER E, and its position between Paris and the eastern suburbs keeps it busy with commuters. A Noisy-le-Sec map poster shows a suburb that is often passed through rather than looked at, and reveals how clearly its history is written into the layout of tracks, canal and streets.
Wide bands of track and yards cross the town, the largest shapes on the print and the key to understanding how its neighbourhoods are divided from one another.
The canal traces a straight, steady line along the northern edge of the town, part of the historic waterway that once supplied Paris with drinking water.
Areas rebuilt after 1944 appear as more regular blocks and open courts, contrasting with the older, tighter streets that survived the bombing.
