Te mapa
Orani is a municipality in Bataan, in the Central Luzon region of the Philippines, on the western side of Manila Bay. The eastern edge of the town is low coastal land, divided into fishponds and cut by tidal rivers and channels. From above, it looks like a patchwork of rectangular ponds that fades gradually into the bay.
Fishing and aquaculture have long been central to the local economy, and Orani is known in the region for its fish port and seafood. The town centre, with its church and plaza, sits a little inland along the main road running up the Bataan peninsula. Land rises westward toward the mountains in the interior of the peninsula.
That sequence, from bay to fishponds to town to hills, gives the map a clear east-to-west story. An Orani map poster shows the grid of aquaculture ponds, the thin tidal waterways winding through them and the denser street network around the old town centre. In monochrome, the result looks almost like a textile, with a finely layered pattern.
Rectangular fishponds cover much of the low coastal land along the bay, forming a neat grid of embankments that dominates the eastern side of the map.
Narrow rivers and creeks wind through the ponds toward Manila Bay, adding irregular curves to the otherwise geometric waterfront.
The church, plaza and main streets are strung along the road that runs up the Bataan peninsula, a short distance inland from the shore.

Koteā ko Orani
For Filipinos from Bataan, especially those working overseas, a map of Orani is an understated way to keep home in view. The water and the ponds make the print interesting even for someone who has never visited.
