Te mapa
Oristano is on the central west coast of Sardinia, near the Gulf of Oristano. The land around it is almost entirely flat, and the map is dominated by water: the Tirso river passes close to the town on its way to the sea, and wide coastal lagoons spread along the shore. The city itself sits a few kilometres inland, with the gulf filling the western side of any wide view.
The historic centre is a compact oval of narrow streets and small squares, still traceable as the area once enclosed by medieval walls. Around it, later neighbourhoods follow a more regular pattern, and main roads leave toward the coast and the rest of the island. Irrigation channels and field roads cut the surrounding plain into long, neat strips.
Oristano was the capital of the medieval Giudicato of Arborea, and it is known for the Sartiglia, an equestrian joust held during Carnival. Across the gulf, the Sinis peninsula holds the ruins of Tharros. An Oristano map poster shows a flat, watery setting and the old walled centre at its heart.
The medieval core stands out as a dense, rounded shape of narrow streets, surrounded by the looser, more regular blocks of later growth.
Wide lagoons and wetlands line the gulf nearby, creating large soft-edged water shapes that balance the town on a wider print.
Around the town, straight channels and farm roads divide the flat land into regular strips, a strong geometric texture in monochrome.

Koteā ko Oristano
For Sardinians, Sartiglia regulars and travellers who spent time around the Sinis peninsula, a map of Oristano holds real associations. The combination of old centre, river and lagoons gives it depth without clutter.
