Te mapa
Osijek stretches along the south bank of the Drava in eastern Croatia. Its plan is long and mostly east–west, following the river. At one end sits Tvrđa, a baroque fortress town built in the eighteenth century, with a compact grid of streets inside the line of its former walls. Upper Town extends to the west with broad avenues and blocks, and a riverside promenade runs along much of the waterfront.
The Co-cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, a neo-Gothic church in the upper town, has one of the tallest church towers in Croatia and is visible across the flat Slavonian landscape. A pedestrian suspension bridge crosses the Drava to the northern bank, toward the direction of the Kopački Rit wetlands.
An Osijek map poster brings out the city's clear structure: the river along its length, the fortress grid at one end, the wider avenues and the bridges. It is a readable, balanced map, and it looks particularly good in Classic black & white or in Paper.
The baroque fortress town is a dense, regular grid of short streets and squares. It is set apart from the rest of the city by open ground where its bastions once stood.
The river runs the length of the city with a walkway along its south bank. On the map the water forms a long, gently curving line at the top.
West of Tvrđa, wide streets and larger blocks form the civic centre around the co-cathedral, with tram lines tying the districts together.
