Te mapa
From above, Ostrów Mazowiecka reads as a crossroads town. Main routes arrive from several directions and converge on a central market square, and the older blocks close around it in a tight, irregular pattern. Further out the plan loosens into detached houses, allotments and newer estates, and at the edges strips of farmland and dark patches of woodland take over from the streets.
The town is the seat of Ostrów County in northeastern Mazovia, on the road corridor between Warsaw and Białystok. Like many towns in this part of Poland, it once had a large Jewish community, and that history is part of the local story. Today it is a regional centre for the farming villages and small settlements around it.
A Ostrów Mazowiecka map poster shows a plan without rivers or hills to organise it. Roads alone set the geometry: radial lines, the square where they meet, and the grid that has filled in between them over the years. In black and white the effect is quiet and almost diagrammatic, a clear picture of how a market town in the Polish lowlands is put together.
The central square sits where the main roads meet, and short streets lead off it into the older part of town. On the map it forms the densest cluster of lines.
Routes toward Warsaw, Białystok and the neighbouring towns leave the centre like spokes. They give the plan its star shape and carry the town out into the countryside.
Beyond the last streets the map empties into long field strips and blocks of forest, typical of the Mazovian plain, which puts a soft frame around the town.
