Pābna lies in the Rajshahi Division, close to the north bank of the Padma, as the Ganges is known in Bangladesh. The land here is almost perfectly flat. Its shape comes from water: old river channels, ponds, seasonal wetlands and the wide floodplain, which set where roads and houses can go.
From above, the town is a dense, irregular network of lanes around a central area. Roads lead out to the surrounding villages and to the river. A small river winds through the town, and many ponds show up as small open spaces in the street pattern. Beyond them, fields and scattered settlements take over.
