Pacatuba lies on the southern edge of the Fortaleza metropolitan area, and its map reflects that position between city and hills. The town centre sits close to the slopes of the Serra da Aratanha, a forested range that rises sharply from the coastal plain. Newer neighbourhoods have spread across the flatter land towards neighbouring Maracanaú, their streets laid out in simple blocks.
The serra shapes daily life here. It offers cooler air and a green backdrop to the town, and its trails and viewpoints attract people from across the metropolitan region. Much of Pacatuba's population growth is recent, tied to the expansion of Fortaleza and the industrial areas nearby, so older and newer street patterns sit side by side.
