Parabiago lies in the Metropolitan City of Milan, in Lombardy, along the corridor that runs northwest from the city. On the map it is a compact town surrounded by other municipalities and fields, crossed by the Olona river and by the Villoresi canal, a nineteenth-century irrigation channel whose straight line is easy to follow.
The town gave its name to the Battle of Parabiago of 1339, and to the Parabiago patera, a Roman silver plate found there and now kept in Milan. In more recent times it became known for shoe making. The railway and main roads linking Milan with the Olona valley pass through it.
