Te mapa
Zermatt is a mountain village in the canton of Valais, at the head of the Mattertal valley, close to the Italian border. It is famous for the Matterhorn, whose pyramid shape rises above the valley. The village is car-free, and most visitors arrive by train from Täsch further down the valley.
On a map, Zermatt forms a long, narrow settlement along the Matter Vispa, a mountain stream running through the valley floor. Streets are short and irregular, lined with chalets and hotels. From the village, railway and cable car lines climb the slopes toward Gornergrat, Sunnegga and the Klein Matterhorn, reaching high ski areas and glaciers.
A Zermatt map poster shows the tight village plan against the dramatic surrounding terrain. The combination of a narrow valley, a single river and lines climbing into the mountains gives the print a clear, vertical energy. It is a fitting keepsake of a place where skiing and mountaineering have long shaped daily life.
The mountain stream runs through the valley floor, dividing the village and guiding the layout of its streets and paths.
Compact streets lined with chalets and hotels fill the valley, with no through roads for private cars.
Rack railway and cable car lines climb from the village toward high viewpoints and ski areas below the Matterhorn.
