Les Diablerets lies at the head of the Ormonts valley in the canton of Vaud, beneath the limestone massif that gives the village its name. It is a traditional mountain village of chalets strung along roads on the valley floor, with ski areas on the slopes to either side. From above the settlement forms a narrow band between steep terrain, overlooked by high rock walls and glaciers.
Above the village, the road climbs to the Col du Pillon, from where a cable car rises to Glacier 3000. This high-altitude area includes the Peak Walk, a suspension bridge strung between two summits, and snow that lasts well into the year. On a Les Diablerets map poster the pass road, cable car line and glacier edges give the upper part of the sheet an intricate, layered structure.
The name is said to come from legends of devils hurling stones from the peaks, a story linked to the rockfalls and landslides that have shaped the massif. Whatever its origin, the landscape is dramatic, with sheer cliffs directly above pastures. The map captures that contrast, a quiet chalet village drawn against the dense, heavy contours of the Diablerets massif.
The pass road climbs above the village toward the cable car station for the glacier. Its winding course links the valley with the high mountains.
Above the pass, a glacier plateau spreads beneath the summits. On the poster its broad outline and the lift lines crossing it form a distinctive upper section.
Chalets line the roads along the floor of the Ormonts valley. From above they form a loose ribbon of buildings running between steep slopes on either side.
