Paracambi Map Poster & Print
Paracambi lies in the western part of the Rio de Janeiro metropolitan region, where the flat Baixada Fluminense meets the first slopes of the Serra do Mar. From above, the town fills a narrow strip of low ground. The streets follow the valley, and forested hills close in on several sides.
The town grew around textile manufacturing. A large nineteenth-century mill complex was once its economic centre, and its buildings still stand in the middle of town and have been reused for education and culture. The railway line that connected Paracambi with Rio also shaped the plan.
